Be it remembered
that I, William Matteson of West Greenwich,in the county of Kent and state
of Rhode Island. being weak in body, and of sound mind and memory, blessed
to God, do this eleventh day of October in the year of our Lord 1813, make
and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form followering
Serverly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Lucena Green, wife of Daniel
Green, one lot of land lying in West Greenwich, the afore-said lot Beginning
at a large rock near the north side of the wall thence as the wall runs
till it comes to the river called Carr's River; thence as the river runs,
to the highway, thence to the first bounds; the above described lot of
land I give to my said daughter Lucena during her natural life. Igive to
my daughter Lucena one other lot of land beginning by the east end of a
small wall that Clark Green lately made running easterly till it comes
to a house occupied by Timothy Andrews thence westerly till it comes to
a small piece of wall lately built by the said Timothy Andrew and the said
Clark Green; thence to take the wall that Timothy Andrew calls the line
wall to run as said wall runs southwesterly, within 4 rods of the end of
said wall, thence to the orchard wall leaving a 4 rod gangway. I also give
the above described lot of land to my daughter Lucena during her natural
life, and at her decease, the 2 above lots of land with all the appurtenances
there unto belonging, my will is that my said grandson, Clark Green should
have to him and his heirs and assigns forever; and my will is that my said
grandson Clark Green should pay to his brothers and sisters 100 dollars
, namely: Caleb Green $20, to Amos Green $20, to Wanton Green $20, to Spencer
Green $20, and to Abigal Green $20; to be paid by the said Clark Green
one-third of each one's sum the first year the said lots of land should
come into his possession and another third in two years from the time the
land comes into his possession and another third in three years from the
time the land comes into his hands. I bequeath unto my daughter Russell
Andrew, wife of Timothy Andrew, all the remainder of my land lying on that
side of the road that the said Timoth lives on, except a gangway 30 rods
wide joining Obediah Matteson's land, and that I have not heretofore given
away, during her natural life,and at her decease, my will is that my grandson,
Peleg Andrew, should have and enjoy the same land that I give to his mother
Russell Andrew, for him and his heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath
unto my daughter Ruth Matteson, wife of Oliver Matteson, the house and
all the land lying on that side of the highway where the said Oliver lives,to
her and her heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath unto my grandson
Allen Potter, all my home place that I bought of Ebenezer Case, to him
and his heirs and assigns forever, and my will is and I order,the said
Allen Potter to pay to his 3 sisters,namely Phebe Green,wife of Elijah
Green $30 to be paid in one year after my decease, and to Sarah Arnold
and Abigail Atwood,$30 each,to be paid in one year after my decease. I
also give and bequeath to my aforesaid daughter, Russell Andrew,my lot
of land that I bought of Urial Matteson, during her natural life and at
her decease, it is my will that my grandson Matteson Andrew should have
and enjoy the same lot that I gave to his mother,to him, his heirs and
assigns forever; and my will is, and I order, my said grandson Matteson
Andrew to pay his sister Sarah Andrew, $10 to be paid two years after the
lt of land comes into his hands. I give and bequeath unto my said daughter,
Russell Andrew, one bed and Furniture standing in the south great room
together with a cow and large iron kettle. I give and bequeath to my granddaugter
Sarah Andrew,one bed sanding in the southeast bedroom, together with the
furniture. I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Rachel Matteson, one
bed and furniture standing in the northwest corner bedroom. I give and
bequeath unto Sarah Matteson daughter of aforesaid Oliver Matteson, one
large pewter platter. I give and bequeath unto Johanna Andrew one warming-
pan. I give and bequeath unto Bethana Sweet one cupboard. I give and bequeath
unto my said daughter Russell Andrew all the remainde of my indoor moveables
that I have not heretofore gven away. My will further is, and I order my
daughter Lucena Green and Ruth Matteson, and my grandson Allen Potter,
to pay all my just debts and funeral charges equally between them to be
collected of the # last names by my executor hereafter named and paid over
to the creditors. My willis that all my outdoor moveables shall first be
turned in towards paying my debts that I have not heretofore given away.
I make and order my said grandson, Ckark Green, my sole executor to this
my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof, I, the said William Matteson
have to this, my Last will and Testament, set my hand and affixed my seal
this eleventh day of October in the year of our Lord, 1813. William his
mark Matteson Signed, sealed. published and declared by me the said William
Matteson as and for his last Will and Testamentin the presents of us,who
at his request and in his presents,and in the presents of each other have
