Heirs of Jonathan Matteson (deceased) to William Matteson
Dated December 10, 1779
Know all men by the presence that
we Obediah Matteson and Elizabeth Matteson, both of West Greenwich in the
county of Kent and state of R.I. Yeoman,and Rueben Nichols and Freelove
Nichols his wife,and Nathaniel Green, Jr., and Patience Green his wife,all
of Coventry in the County and State above said,Yeoman. For and in consideration
of the sum of $10 well and truly paid by William Matteson of West Greenwich
in the county of Kent and state of R.I.,Yeoman,have given, granted, bargained,
remised and quit claimed and do by these presents give, grant, bargain,
and forever quit claim unto him the said William Matteson, his heirs and
assigns forever, all our right, title, interest, property or claim that
we now have, of, in and unto him, certain tracts or parcels of land situated,
lying and being one of them in Coventry and the other in West Greenwich,
which was our honoured fathers Jonathan Matteson's, late of West Greenwich
deceased, and is bounded as followeth: this lot lying in Coventry and is
called the first lot; beginning at th west side on a river southerly on
West Greenwich line; easterly on land belongling to Thomas Bastholick;
northerly on land belongling to John Franklin; and the other lot lying
in West Greenwich and is called the eleventh lot and is one-quarter of
the said eleventh lot which w acquit and lot is bounded as followeth:---
beginning on the West side on the twelfth lot; northerly on the Coventry
line; easterly on the tenth lot; southerly on a highway: to have and to
hold the said remised and quit claimed premises unto him, the said William
Matteson, his heirs and assigns forever,to their own proper use, benefit
and behoof forever, and we the said Obediah Matteson and Elizabeth Matteson
and Reuben Nichols and wife,Freelove Nichols: and Nathaniel Green and Patience,
his wife, do for the consideration of above said William for our forever---
our heirs, executors and administrators, freely, fully give, grant, yeild
surrender up and quit claim until him the said William Matteson, his heirs
and assigns forever all our right, title, interest, property or claim that
we now have, or by law might or could have in or unto the above remised
premises, in witness whereof we have hereunto set our hand and affixed
our seals the 10th of December, A.D. 1779 (Shouldn't this be 1799) and
in the 24th year of American Independence.
